If you’re new to home brewing or even considering it, this post is for you! The short answer to this question is: Real Easy. Brewing your own beer is also a great experience, and to top things off it’ll save you money in the long run. Not only that, but taking that first satisfying sip of an ice-cold beer you made yourself is glorious.
Home brewing is not a just add water level of easy, and it does take effort, and patience. But trust us, your work and perseverance will pay dividends at your next social gathering, or dinner party. Once you make that perfect batch, and a guest says “Wow, what kind of beer is this?” You can reply with satisfaction: “Me.”
To get things started, here is a quick list of items you’ll need in order to gear-up for home brewing:
- 1 x 30 Litre Bucket with Lid, Grommet & Airlock
- 1 x Airlock for the above if necessary (comes with 30 litre bucket as standard
- 1 x Siphon and 'U' Tube (we recommend the Auto Siphon)
- 1 x Sterilising Solution
- 1 x Mixing Spoon
- 1 x Quality Beer Kit
- 1 x Pressure Barrel fitted with a Pressure Release/Injection Valve
- 23 x One Litre Pet bottles with suitable tops
- 40 x One Pint Glass Bottles plus caps (& 1 x Capping Machine to put the caps on)
Sanitizing is KEY!
It is important to add, that keeping your equipment clean is paramount. Nobody wants to end up with an infected batch! You will after all be working with live bacteria, and fermenting your brew. Clean equipment will ensure your end-product is top notch.
Another thing you’ll need is space to conduct your brewing adventures, and a medium to large size sink (laundry sinks are ideal.) However, if your living space is rather small, we’ve got you covered! At Bayridge Cask & Keg you can brew in-store!
